Akshara, "unit of rhythm ", imperishable and
constant, becomes rhythm of the Universe, the Life, the Dance,
and generates energies. Patrick GLEYSE offers us a western vision
of these energies which India evokes in the shape of Divine Couples,
couples of complementary energies, resulting of the universal
chaos … Awaking of the forms, organization of the sounds
and the bodies, birth of the émotion…
Patrick Gleyse
A word about Akshara … "Akshara, Divine Couples was created at Toursky Theatre on 3rd and 4th December 2002, and was acclaimed by more than thousand spectators. This production has been performed in London, France, Switzerland, India…"
Press Articles…
"A ballet that is a marriage of India and Europe …it was a great revelation that took place for two evenings at Toursky. The Indo-European ballet "Sadhana", created by Nirmala and Patrick Gleyse, is unquestionably a success, a marvellous fusion of genres, creating a feast for our eyes through meticulous work which excludes neither poetry nor energy..." la Provence
The magic of ballet : "…To appreciate the beauty and perfection of the choreoraphy, it was enough to be there last Saturday in the Colombe…A superb show with this Indo– European ballet . La Provence
"A spell-binding choreography, with astonishing grace and precision. An explosion of joy and beauty, a means to find and develop fundamental energy in oneself." La Marseillaise
"Akshara, Divine Couples has great emotional beauty … All the elements (lighting, selection of music…) in addition to the choreography make it a rare pearl in its shell." Patricia Zanluccki
"The mood is Indian,
the form Western and the message universal." Manisha Iyer, India
"Patrick Gleyse is the one dancer who - after having danced
with Maurice Bejart's "Les Ballets du XXème Siècle",
with Brigitte Lefevre's "Le Théâtre du Silence",
with Joseph Russillo's "Ballet Théâtre Russillo"
and different Operas - has devoted himself to Bharatanatyam, a
style of classical dance from South India, a dance form that is
even today held sacred, dating back to several millennia and whose
primordial Guru is Shiva, the Cosmic dancer "
" this dancer's style is revealed when, through his
traditional choreographic compositions, he creates his Interior
Temple where two traditions -Western and Indian- can cohabit
An alchemy of body and spirit that brings down all boundaries "
" in his approach to Bharatanatyam, Patrick Gleyse brings
to this dance a fullness that is recognized and highly appreciated
in the different countries where he performs. His western artistic
past and his fervor for Indian culture impart to his dance an
openness, a spiritual dimension not only in his dance-theatre,
abhinaya, but also in the sequences of pure dance
He belongs to a contemporary reflection by seeking an alliance between modern dance And traditional South Indian dance Muthuswamy Pillai Style.
